If you want results you have to just do it!If you want results you have to just do it!

When is it a good time to break your leg?

The obvious answer is ‘never!’ – but if you want to get results, if you want to make changes, if you want to achieve things, you have to just do it.
If you’re planning to do anything that takes out of your comfort zone, whether it’s entering a race, making a career move, posting a video on LI, calling a prospect, booking a course, writing your book… you might as well be planning to break your leg.
Because the primitive part of your brain, the part that looks after your safety and security, is only interested in getting you through today so that you live into tomorrow (it’s all really rooted in procreation, ensuring we live long enough to keep the species going). It’s not interested in your happiness or your sense of achievement or how much money you make. It just wants you to survive.
Anything that takes you out of your comfort zone throws up all sorts of negative thoughts and feelings. That inner voice that tells you you’re not good enough, who do you think you are to reach for it, you’ve got no chance of getting there, you might as well not bother…
That voice is trying to keep you safe, it’s trying to protect you from the dangers out there because that’s what it’s there for. Evolution has perfected the art of keeping us safe.
But safe isn’t always what we want or need. That primitive part of your brain simply hasn’t noticed that we no longer live in a primitive landscape, with marauding tribes and dangerous animals all around us – it hasn’t noticed that the wallpaper has changed.
We can talk ourselves into waiting for the ‘perfect’ time, but in reality there is no such thing. We’re kidding ourselves into a whole heap of procrastination.
You could put it off forever, and that probably means not doing it at all.
So there’s no better time than now. Now is a good time to break your leg.
Getting it out of your head and into action will make you feel better, it will clear headspace for getting on with the next thing. And it has a knock-on positive effect because when you start sorting out one area of your life, it becomes easier to do the rest.
The first step is the hardest so go on, get it over with!
